MIG welding is an arc welding process in which a solid wire electrode is fed through a welding gun and into the weld pool, joining the two base materials together. Its technical name for it is gas metal arc welding.
The most common of the reactive gases used in MIG welding is Carbon Dioxide (CO2). It is the only one that can be used in its pure form without the addition of an inert gas.
MIG-(metal inert gas) welding is generally used for large and thick materials. it can be used for direct metal-to-metal welds and results in neater, spatter-free welds that are generally free of defects. Compared to TIG welding, it is much faster, resulting in shorter lead times and lower production costs.
TIG welding can be used for more metals than any other type of process. A variety of industries rely on TIG welding. Auto manufacturers use TIG welding on fenders for its anti-corrosive properties.
TIG welding offers you to finish projects with thinner metals as you weld. Most welders use TIG welding when melding very thin metals that MIG welding can’t handle, or to touch up and finalize projects.
